Dirt Road
The Journey Begins - Ready?

In order to begin this journey, we are going to make two major assumptions. These assumptions, however, are not just materialized from thin air as a magician might do, but they are well founded and reasonable. It is suggested that you keep a notebook handy to write down any comments or questions you may have as you make discoveries.

Major Assumption # 1:  God exists.

You may already believe this. Or not. You may sense a belief in “something” that seems innate, but you don’t know how to describe it. The fact that you came to this website gives some indication that you may be searching, that you may want to know if there is a God, and if so, what He/She/It is like. And what might it have to do with you?

Is it really possible to know anything about God? Or to know God experientially or personally? Let’s make some observations:

1) Creation  Where did it begin? Did it require a Prime Cause, a Prime Mover, a Creator?   It is reasonable to accept this. Can any scientific theory adequately account for the multi-faceted, multi-dimensional complexity, diversity, vastness, beauty and order we see in creation?

2) Human beings  Despite the argument of many that humans are merely higher evolutionary animals with few differences to lower animals, both reason and common sense mitigate against this. Humans and other creatures are vastly different from one another. Just think of human abilities to reason, make moral choices, create, predict, build, write, read, etc. These attributes attest to an undeniable and unbridgeable chasm between humans and animals. Just because humans sometimes act like brute beasts, does not prove that they are! No, humans were God’s highest and best creation, made in His very image and are superior in every way to animals. Your very fingerprints are matchless for a reason. There is no one and will never be anyone like you. Would you allow yourself the possibility that you are a special and unique creation of God?

3) The innate human need to worship  Whether we realize it or not, we were created with a deep need to worship. What is worship? To worship is to completely devote oneself in praise, adoration, thanksgiving, dependence and service to another, namely and properly to God. Why and how filling our need to worship has become diverted, perverted, distorted and misplaced will be discussed later. Yet the fact that nearly all of us end up devoting ourselves to someone or something gives credence to the existence of this God-given need.

If these observations are true, then the following questions may be asked:

1) If God exists, what is He/She/It like?

2) Has this God revealed Himself to His human creation beyond the evidence from the natural world? If so, how?

3) Why do so many humans reject the existence of God?

4) Does rejecting God disprove His existence or does Truth remain regardless of whether a majority believes it?

Simple suggestion: If you ever wondered if God exists, but were afraid to ask, why not just look up and say, “If you’re there, show me. I want to know.”
